Memorial Day weekend is just a few short days away — the unofficial start of summer.
And here in New England, we all know how quickly summer flies by. After a long winter, these warmer months feel extra short, which is exactly why I like to enjoy them to the fullest.
That also means I try to prepare a little earlier — getting organized now so there’s more room later for the things summer should include: slower evenings, time outside, weekend plans, vacations, and a little breathing room.
In this post, I’m sharing a few simple ways to help you head into summer feeling more organized, more prepared, and a little less reactive.
Review Your Summer Calendar
Before summer gets busy, spend a few minutes looking ahead.
Add vacations, travel days, reduced office hours, important deadlines, and recurring events to your calendar now. If you work closely with clients, this is also a great time to confirm any summer schedule changes that may affect availability or turnaround times.
A quick calendar review today can prevent a lot of last-minute stress later.
Get Ahead on Recurring Tasks
Summer has a way of making even routine tasks feel rushed.
Use the next couple of weeks to get ahead where you can:
- draft upcoming newsletters
- prep invoices
- schedule reminders
- outline social content
- organize upcoming projects or events
Even getting one or two things done early creates more breathing room later.
Organize One Business System
You do not need to overhaul everything at once.
Choose one area of your business to simplify:
- email folders
- desktop files
- client documents
- templates
- passwords
- downloads folder
Small organizational projects often create the biggest day-to-day relief.
Prepare for Summer Communication
If you plan to travel or adjust your hours this summer, communicate early.
Update autoresponders, share important deadlines ahead of time, and make sure key information is easy to access. A little proactive communication helps everyone feel more prepared.
Summer is also a good reminder that everything does not need to operate at full speed all the time.
This can be a great season to simplify where you can, focus on the priorities that matter most, and let go of some of the pressure to do all the things at once.
Create a Little Margin
One of the best things you can do during busy seasons is leave yourself a little extra room.
Block catch-up time on your calendar, avoid overbooking your schedule, and build in lighter admin days where possible.
A little preparation now can help summer feel calmer, smoother, and far less overwhelming.
Wishing you a productive, organized, and enjoyable summer season ahead!
